Application Process
Since Reserves for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office are fully commissioned Deputies, the application and screening process is the same as it is for full-time positions. The application process is as follows: There are 13 documents you are required to complete. You may Download the Application Packet, which contains the 13 documents and 2 files explaining the process in a self-extracting (zip) file. All of these documents can also be obtained from the Sheriff's Office. All of these documents are in MS Word. If you do not have MS Word, you can download the Free MS Word Reader or (Download PDF Application Packet). Before you start to complete the application documents, you should first thoroughly read the following documents which explain the process and define the requirements. * (1) Testing Process.doc * (1.1) SFSOR SOP / Requirements.doc (ver 03-04-2008) Complete and Submit the following documents to: Santa Fe County Human Resources Division *(Download document) (a1) Pre_Employment_Inquiry.doc Complete and Submit the following documents to: Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, CSS Division (ALL of these documents MUST be NOTARIZED) *(Download document) (b1) Background_Investigation1.doc *(Download document) (d1) Essay.doc (does not require notarization) You will also need the following documents available for the Sheriff’s Office to review. The Sheriff's Office requires reviewing the originals of these documents, but does not keep the originals or make copies of the originals. * Official Birth Certificate (Note: We do not make copies of your Birth Certificate) * Any other applicable certificates Written ExaminationAfter applications are reviewed, qualified applicants are invited to take the written examination. Each applicant must obtain a minimum passing score of 70% on the written examination to be eligible for the next testing phase. Physical Ability TestEach applicant that passes the written examination must pass the physical ability test. The physical ability test consists of sit-ups, push-ups, a 1.5-mile run, and a 300-meter run. To be eligible for the next testing phase, the minimum of the State Law Enforcement Academy standards must be met (see the following page for details). Oral InterviewApplicants who have successfully completed the written examination and the physical ability test will move forward to an oral interview with an interview panel.Upon passing the oral interview, a list of eligible candidates will be forwarded to the Sheriff for a decision. Background InvestigationAll potential employees must adhere to a pre-employment test, which will consist of a drug/alcohol screening and a complete physical examination. Psychological InvestigationApplicants must undergo and pass a psychological examination with a qualified psychologist hired by Santa Fe County.
