Fire Prevention/Risk Reduction (FP/RR): Fire Prevention and Connection, Outreach, and Overdose Prevention (COOP) Sections form the core of Santa Fe County Fire Department’s Fire Prevention/Risk Reduction Division. The goal of FP/RR is to identify, assess, plan, prevent, and help mitigate risks that have a negative impact to life, property, and natural resources within our community. Fire Prevention focuses its operation on establishing community partnerships, disseminating fire prevention public education and fire and life safety information, applying and educating aspects of code enforcement, reviewing plans for new and existing development and fire protection systems, as well as inspecting commercial buildings for fire code violations. COOP focuses on connecting Santa Fe County residents, in collaboration with Community Services Division navigators, with the appropriate treatment services and programs; for example, NARCAN distribution, health & welfare checks, harm and risk reduction, meals-on-wheels, as well as mental health. FP/RR Division identifies vulnerable areas of the community through risk assessment plans and implements risk reduction measures through Community Risk Reduction Outreach Programs (CRROP).
