New Mexico Clerks Affiliate
The New Mexico County Clerks Affiliate primarily serves as a statewide professional and policy group for New Mexico’s elected county clerks. It does not replace the individual county clerk’s office or carry out each county’s day-to-day public-records and election work.
Main Affiliate Duties

Coordinate statewide clerk priorities:
It gives clerks a forum to identify common operational, legal, election-administration, records, and public-transparency issues across counties. -
Develop and advocate legislation:
The affiliate develops legislative priorities and supports or opposes bills affecting clerk functions. Recent affiliate-related measures included changes to marriage-license fees and election-related legislation. -
Advise on rules and share best practices:
Its Legislative, Policy, Administrative Rule & Best Practices Committee works on proposed administrative rules, policy guidance, and methods counties can use to perform clerk functions consistently. -
Support training and professional development:
Seeks technical assistance for education for county clerks and the affiliate itself. -
Address public-records practices:
Its IPRA committee was created to draft uniform public-records-response guidelines that individual counties may elect to adopt; those guidelines are not automatically binding on every county.
