Beware of fraudulent invoices impersonating Santa Fe County

SANTA FE, N.M., Oct. 21, 2026—Scammers are impersonating Santa Fe County departments by sending emails with County branding, department information, and instructions requesting a payment from the recipient. Santa Fe County never sends invoices or requests payment by email and never asks for a wire transfer without prior agreement. Verify any payment requests or fees directly with the appropriate County department before sending funds or sharing financial information. Find contact information for County departments on the County website.

If you have fallen victim to an email or phone scam, or provided any personal information, such as your name, date of birth, social security information or banking details, it is important to report it. You can call the Regional Emergency Communications Center nonemergency line to make a report at 505-428-3720.

You may also register a complaint about fraudulent cyber scams with the Federal Bureau of Investigation through their online Internet Crime Complaint Center. Additionally, you can report frauds, scams, and bad business practices, including annoying phone calls, to the Federal Trade Commission.
