The Santa Fe Board of County Commissioners has placed a three-month moratorium on applications to drill an oil or natural gas well.  The moratorium is in effect to allow time for the adoption of a new ordinance that contains specific provisions governing oil and natural gas exploration.  The current ordinance governs hard rock mining.  It was placed under an emergency declaration for the protection of the public health, safety and welfare and expires on February 27, 2008.
