Help keep Santa Fe County litter free with free tire disposal and green waste options

SANTA FE, N.M., May 7, 2026—Santa Fe County expanded free tire recycling to the full month of May with funding support from the New Mexico Environment Department RAID grant. The program is open to Santa Fe County with a valid ID and proof of address or a solid waste permit.â¯
Residents can recycle up to eight tires per person per day, and rims must be removed and placed in the scrap metal bin. Illegally dumped tires are a serious fire and environmental hazard, and proper recycling turns them into valuable new products like flooring, roofing, and sports surfaces.
Additionally, the County is offering ten free green waste disposal days for the rest of this year, with two this week, on Friday May 8 and Saturday May 9, at the Stanley, Jacona, and Eldorado Collection Centers to be processed into mulch and compost. This is much safer and cleaner than openly burning green waste. Green waste includes yard waste, lawn clippings, leaves, and tree trimmings under 18" diameter. It does NOT include weeds, cholla cactus, sod, root balls, stumps, lumber, treated wood, dirt, rocks, or construction materials.
Visit the County website for more information about free tire disposal and green waste days.
