Santa Fe County Announces Free Solid Waste Days at Convenience Centers Countywide and Temporary, Emergency Site Rio En Medio

SANTA FE, NM – On August 23, 2022, the Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) authorized free solid waste disposal at all County Convenience Centers for County residents with unused trips on their punch permits on the following days:  

Friday, August 26;
Saturday, August 27;
Friday, September 2; and
Saturday, September 3, 2022
In addition, residents with unused trips on their solid waste permits may dispose of their flood-related debris only in the roll-off bin at the Rio en Medio Community Center on:

Monday, August 29: and
Wednesday, September 7, 2022.
“The Board of County Commissioners recognized that flooding has impacted all areas of the County, bringing a lot of debris with it,” said Gary L.J. Giron, Public Works Department Director. “Free solid waste disposal opportunities will help citizens cleanup the flood-debris.”

Free solid waste disposal is only available to County residents with unused trips remaining on the following Solid Waste Permits: 12 Trip Punch Permit, 6 Trip Punch Permit, 3 Trip Punch Permit, and 1 Trip Permit.

All solid waste brought to any convenience center or temporary, emergency site shall be complaint with Ordinance 2014-10. To review a list of prohibited materials, visit our Public Works webpage. In addition, the temporary, emergency site at Rio en Medio is for flood-debris only.

Separately, the Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution declaring Santa Fe County an emergency/disaster area due to flooding. This is a necessary step in applying for emergency/disaster relief from the State and federal governments.
