Santa Fe County Recognizes September 17, 2025 as National Citizenship Day
Santa Fe, NM - The Santa Fe Board of County Commissioners has officially proclaimed September 17, 2025, as National Citizenship Day in Santa Fe County, reaffirming the County’s commitment to democracy, equity, and inclusion.
The proclamation underscores the importance of naturalization and pathways to citizenship as vital to strengthening civic participation, advancing economic opportunity, and fostering community cohesion. It also recognizes the contributions of immigrants and new citizens whose diverse experiences enrich the cultural and economic vitality of Santa Fe County.
“Citizenship Day is a celebration of what makes our communities strong, diverse voices, shared responsibility, and a commitment to building a better future together,” said Commissioner Lisa Cacari Stone. “Santa Fe County is proud to stand with all residents, regardless of citizenship status, in affirming dignity, opportunity, and belonging.”
This action builds upon Resolution No. 2025-15, adopted on February 11, 2025, in which the Board affirmed equitable access to services and dignity for all residents. By aligning with national efforts such as the Cities & Counties for Citizenship (CC4C) initiative, Santa Fe County joins communities across the country in supporting immigrant and refugee families in fully participating in civic life.
Commissioners Lisa Cacari Stone and Adam F. Johnson sponsored the proclamation, which was approved at the September 9, 2025, Board of County Commissioners meeting.
