Santa Fe County Seeks COLTPAC Committee Members

SANTA FE, NM – The Santa Fe County Planning Division is seeking a volunteer committee member to serve on the County Open Lands, Trails and Parks Advisory Committee (COLTPAC). Comprising of nine county residents, COLTPAC advises the Board of County Commissioners on the protection, stewardship, and use of natural and cultural resources in open spaces, trails and parks. There is currently one vacancy in Commission District 3.

COLTPAC plays a vital role in shaping public access to open spaces, trails and parks. Committee responsibilities include:

  • Recommending properties for acquisition for open spaces, trails and parks;
  • Establishing volunteer subcommittees to address specific concerns for open spaces, trails and parks;
  • Reviewing and updating selection criteria for property selection, when necessary;
  • Assisting with updates to the County’s Open Space, Trails and Parks Plan, as necessary;
  • Advising on funding and budget priorities for the program; and
  • Collaborating with County staff on public outreach initiatives.

Ideal candidates will bring expertise in areas such as trails planning and construction, hydrology, ecological restoration, agriculture, wildlife, water resources, public administration or finance. Appointments are subject to confirmation by the Board of County Commissioners based on qualifications and a submitted letter of interest.

The Committee meets quarterly, typically after 5:00 p.m., with special meetings as needed. Appointed members shall serve a three-year term.
