Santa Fe County to begin repairs on Valle Vista water system
SANTA FE, N.M., May 18, 2026—Santa Fe County will begin work on water utilities in the Valle Vista and Pueblo Garcia subdivisions, on June 1, that will take up to three months to complete. The County is hosting a public meeting for residents of the area to learn about the project and ask questions, May 27, at 5:30 p.m., at the Rancho Viejo Fire Station, located at 37 Rancho Viejo Boulevard, with a Spanish translator on site.
The County discovered a need for this work during the February water outage. The updates will make the water system more reliable and future repairs easier. Crews will install isolation valves throughout the water system to enable the County to isolate smaller sections during repairs and reduce the need to shut down water service for the communities.
The valves are about four to five feet below ground, sometimes located beneath the street, and sometimes located within easements on private property. The County will work with residents to temporarily move parked vehicles, if needed, and to access easements on private property. Driving access may be temporarily limited at some repair sites.
No water outages are planned or expected, but due to the condition of the infrastructure, there is a possibility of an unexpected outage. If temporary service interruptions become necessary, notice will be provided through the following:
- Alert Santa Fe—sign up online
- The electronic message board at NM-14 and Valle Vista Boulevard
- Emails sent to the email on file with the Utilities division
Update your contact information on the back of your utilities bill or email SFCutil@SantaFeCountyNM.gov.
County staff, utilities workers, and Commissioner, District 5, Hank Hughes, will be at the public meeting to discuss the project details and timeline, what kind of construction will take place, what residents can expect, how to prepare in case of a temporary water outage, and how the County will respond if an outage lasts more than 24 hours. Although a water outage is not planned or expected, the County has a crisis plan in place.
Informational meeting for residents of Valle Vista and Pueblo Garcia neighborhoods:
- Time and date: May 27, 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
