What is the Project?
Located off NM-599 and adjacent to the River Trail, Romero Park is a regional asset that serves both County and City residents alike.
Phase III will provide much needed recreational and physical fitness opportunities for adults and youth alike. Youth-focused opportunities are especially important given the behavioral health and related challenges facing young people in our community.
Phase III is intended to include:
- a multi-use field that will be available for youth soccer practices/games as well as a full football field for adult flag football opportunities as well as youth games;
- a new synthetic surfaced baseball/softball field to provide a recreational field for all ages to be used during all seasons and will be low maintenance; and
- a pickleball court expansion to provide additional courts to the recently constructed courts and will allow for additional participants of all ages to engage in outdoor recreational activities.
Additional amenities will be designed and constructed as space and funding allow.
What will 2026 Capital Outlay Request do?
Fully fund the design of the Phase III improvements, allowing the County to invest $4 million in County general obligation bonds in actual improvements.
