The DWI Planning Council is a council of multi-disciplinary partners that acts as an advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners on issues related to DWI, underage drinking, alcohol misuse, and substance use. The Council supports the development of evidence-based strategies and helps secure and guide the use of state and local funding.
Working in collaboration with DWI Prevention Program staff, the Council develops a comprehensive strategic plan to assess community needs and strengthen services across Community Wellness, Treatment, Alternative Sentencing, and Program Administration. The Council represents all areas of Santa Fe County, including municipalities, unincorporated communities, and participating tribal partners, ensuring a coordinated and inclusive approach to addressing substance-related issues.
Additionally, the Council reviews and supports public policy efforts aimed at improving community safety and reducing alcohol- and substance-related harm. Key focus areas include responsible alcohol access, prevention of underage drinking, and community education related to emerging substance use trends. Through strategic planning, collaboration, and community engagement, the DWI Planning Council plays an important role in promoting safer, healthier communities across Santa Fe County.
