Action needed for area of upcoming construction of Pojoaque Basin Regional Water System

SANTA FE, N.M., May 29, 2026—The Bureau of Reclamation is leading construction of the Pojoaque Basin Regional Water System, which is currently underway in the Pojoaque area. Santa Fe County is supporting this effort by coordinating with landowners about potential service connections.
A main waterline will be installed in the following areas in the coming weeks, and the County needs to hear from you before June 5 if your property is located directly adjacent to one of these roadway segments, and you would like a service connection installed, or if you have questions about your options:
- County Road 84 between County Road 101E and County Road 84D
- County Road 101E
- NM-502 between Elk Trail and Jacona Road
- NM-503 between Old Callejon Road and Don Bernardo Road
Please contact Santa Fe County Project Manager Scott Kaseman before June 5, at 505-992-9887 or email SKaseman@SantaFeCountyNM.gov.
Santa Fe County will pay up to $10,000 to connect eligible residents to the water system—but you must opt in before the waterline is installed in the roadway near your property and notify Santa Fe County Project Manager Scott Kaseman of your intent to connect, so he can help facilitate the process. If you want to connect after the waterline is installed by your home, you may be responsible for those connection costs.
Because this project is ongoing and will continue to move across the Pojoaque Valley, an informational public meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Pojoaque Valley Middle School Auditorium, located at 1797 NM-502. Staff from Santa Fe County, Bureau of Reclamation, and the Office of the State Engineer will be available to answer questions and assist with completing the necessary form to connect to the water system.
The water system will provide reliable, safe drinking water to Pueblo and non-Pueblo customers who are part of the Aamodt Settlement Agreement in the corridors of NM-502, NM-503, 285 from Pojoaque to Tesuque, and Bishop’s Lodge Road. The system will deliver up to 2,500 acre-feet of water annually from the Rio Grande providing a reliable and sustainable source of drinking water to the region while reducing strain on the Pojoaque Basin aquifer. The system will also enhance public safety with the installation of fire hydrants along waterlines at rural standard intervals. In addition, the system is designed to allow emergency water service from the Santa Fe Basin, providing resilience in the event of unforeseen water supply challenges.
The AAMODT Acceptance/Well Election Form and Instruction sheet for filing with the U.S. District Court allow you to decide if and how you wish to participate in the AAMODT Settlement Agreement and the regional water system. Please note, the new option 2 allows you to connect your home to the water system for indoor use while retaining your existing well for outdoor use. Having a dual source of water—along with a reliable supply of drinking water and improved fire protection—can increase property value and may reduce homeowner insurance rates.
