County Caddy Program Provides 148 More Safe Rides in 2nd Weekend

Santa Fe– June 26, 2007 – Santa Fe County’s Caddy program provided 148 more safe rides this past weekend. That brings the total for the two weekend-old program to 358. “Three-hundred and fifty eight cars with drivers who are sober” said Santa Fe County Health and Human Services Director Steve Shepherd, “When you multiply the number of rides times the number of potential drivers in those cabs, the effect is like a growing blanket of safety for drivers on the weekends.” The County invested an additional $2,262.34 in safe rides this weekend to keep drunk drivers off Santa Fe County roads.

The County DWI Programhas partnered with Capital City Cab in order to offer FREE chauffer and designated driver services within the Santa Fe City limits on Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. for the summer.

Reservations for free, safe transportation from any residence to any location or from any location to a residence for individuals and groups within the Santa Fe City limits must be made through the CADDyHotline at 995-9528. Reservations can be made any time (minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.) Riders will not be transported from one place of business to another.

Riders are being surveyed to ensure the legitimacy of the ride. Data collected during the three month pilot period will be measured against DWI stats compiled by local law enforcement to gauge effectiveness.
