Free green waste disposal days coming up for Santa Fe County

SANTA FE, N.M., June 5, 2026—The Stanley, Jacona, and Eldorado Convenience Centers are accepting green waste at no charge on select days each month through September. The next opportunity will be June 12 and 13.

County residents with a valid solid waste permit can bring yard waste, lawn clippings, leaves, and tree trimmings under 18 inches diameter at no charge to drop off. Green waste is processed into mulch and compost, which is safer and cleaner than openly burning it. Green waste does not include weeds, cholla cactus, sod, root balls, stumps, lumber, treated wood, dirt, rocks, or construction materials.

Free green waste days encourage residents to reduce fuels on their property and reduce the need for burning. Clearing brush from around the home perimeter helps create a buffer zone to slow or halt the spread of wildland fire from affecting the home. Unmanaged vegetation between and around homes increases the risk of wildfire spreading throughout the community and endangering lives and property.

Read our online guide about how to prepare the zones around your home and structures to reduce this risk.

Take advantage of free green waste days and create defensible space to help protect your home from wildfire risks.
