Pojoaque Basin Regional Water System updates for El Rancho

SANTA FE, N.M., April 15, 2026—The Pojoaque Basin Regional Water System will be installing waterline with a three-to-four-month road closure for part of County Road 84 in El Rancho, beginning April 20.

The work will take place in segments along CR84, from Entrada El Rancho (CR 101D) to the Y intersection with CR84B. Due to the narrow corridor, it will be necessary to close segments of the road during the construction.

Ingress and egress options will change throughout the construction depending on where the work is happening. Emergency services will receive nightly updates on the planned closures, to know the best route during emergencies.

Additionally, Santa Fe County will update its webpage with the location of the planned closures for each day, so residents will know which way to enter and exit.

To find the updates, visit the Santa Fe County homepage, and click on the “Aamodt Updates” card, or go directly to SantaFeCountyNM.gov/public-works/Aamodt, where updates will be added to the top of the webpage.

The Pojoaque Basin Regional Water System will provide reliable, safe drinking water to eligible Pueblo and non-Pueblo customers who opt in. The Bureau of Reclamation is the lead on the project, responsible for design, construction, and budget.

A water treatment facility will treat water from the Rio Grande and distribute it to tanks and residents through over 150 miles of planned waterlines.

The water system will be managed by the Pojoaque Basin Regional Water Authority. Santa Fe County may serve as the initial system operator. The system will be structured and operated to provide safe and reliable potable water to the residents of the Pojoaque Basin and water for fire suppression.

Residents who wish to connect to the system are encouraged to complete an Acceptance/Well Election Form soon (instructions for the form). The Elections are being mapped to determine the location of the future distribution lines. The County will use its fixed budget to construct lines where it can serve the most customers. If your Election has not been filed in the coming months, it may not be used in determining the location of the lines and service may not be available to your property.
