Hourly Rates

Deputy Cadet  - Sign-on Bonus $5,000.00
Deputy Lateral Sign-on Bonus $10,000.00

Deputy Cadet - $27.22/hr 

Deputy I - Start Pay $27.22/hr 

  • 1 to 3 years experience with another agency as a certified law enforcement officer

Deputy II - Start Pay $30.77/hr 

  • NOTE: (For the purpose of pay rate only) Lateral Deputy II hires will received 3 to 4 years credit for the number of years they served as a certified law enforcement officer with another law enforcement agency prior to employment with Santa Fe County

Deputy III - Start Pay $36.69/hr 

  • Note: (For the purpose of pay rate only) Lateral Deputy III hires will receive 5 years  credit for the number of years they served as a certified law enforcement officer with another law enforcement agency prior to employment with Santa Fe County.

LATERAL HIRES

Out-of-State or Federal Lateral

  • Mandatory completion of the NM Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy 2-week certification by waiver course
  • Entrance written exam, interview and background investigation

IN-STATE LATERAL

  • Entrance written exam, interview and background investigation

Per Collective Bargaining Agreement between Santa Fe County and New Mexico Coalition of Public Safety Officers-Sheriff
January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2023.

Santa Fe County is under the Municipal Police Plan 5, which is the largest contributing police retirement plan under the New Mexico Public Employee's Retirement Association (PERA).

Annual and Sick Leave

Annual and sick leave is accumulated every pay period. Leave accrual is based on years of service (YOS) at Santa Fe County.

Group Insurance

  • 80% (County), 20% (employee) contribution per pay period for thos eearning under $30,000 per year
  • 75% (County), 25% (employee) contribution per pay period for thos earning $30,000 to $50,000 per year
  • 63% (County), 37% (employee) contributon per pay period fo rthose earing over $50,000 per year

RETIREMENT

25 YEAR PERA RETIREMENT PLAN (Unless Tier 1)

Tier One Pension Factor = 3.5% each year (State of New Mexico PERA)

NOTE:  Tier One applies to anyone hired up to July 1, 2013

  • 29.01% (County Contribution)
  • 7.69% (Employee Contribution)
  • 56.8% total county contribution toward Municipal Police Plan 5 Retirement Package
  • 20 Years of Service credit = 70% of salary
  • 20.11 Years of Service credit = 80% of salary
  • 25.9 Years of Service credit - 90% of salary

Tier Two Pension Factor = 3% each year (State of New Mexico PERA)

NOTE:  Tier Two applies to new hires from July 1, 2013 and after

  • 29.01% (County Contributon)
  • 7.69% (Employee Contribution)
  • 56.8% total county contribution toward Municipal Polic Plan 5 Retirement Package
  • 25 Years of Service credit = 75% of salary
  • 26.8 Years of Service credit = 80% of salary
