On 8/15/09 deputies were dispatched to above location to pick up suspect at his home in reference to a bench warrant for failure to comply with conditions of release from the Electronic Monitoring Program.  Suspect was arrested,transported and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.

On 8/15/09 deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash.  Prior to arrival deputies were told suspect attempted to run over victim in which he lost control of vehicle and collided with a fence.  During investigation, Deputies learned suspect vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed, victim tossed a weed at the passing vehicle causing driver to become irate.  Suspect put vehicle into reverse and attempted to run over the victim.  Suspect was arrested, transported and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.

Suspect:  Bryan Varela Sr., age 50, Santa Fe, NM

Charged:  Abandonment or abuse of a child

On 8/14/09 suspect struck victim with a baseball bat on the knee and elbow, after a lengthy argument.  Suspect was intoxicated and claimed his son was out of control.  Suspect has a history of alcohol abuse.  Victim was treated for minor injuries.  Suspect was arrested, transported and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.

Deceased:Paul C. Roybal, Age;55

On 08-15-09 at approximately 7:00 AM the victim was found dead in his bedroom. The victim had several illnesses and had been drinking heavy all day. The cause of death is still under investigation.

0209007292 DWI/Concealing Identity/Bringing Contraband into a place of Imprisonment 08-15-09

Arrested: Carlos Sanchez 19yoa

On the above date, the defendant was stoped for driving without his headlamps.  Upon making contact, officer detected and odor of alcohol.  Defendant displyed signs of impairment and was arrested.  Defendant gave a false name and his true identity was later learned.  Prior to booking, the defenant was asked if he had anything in his pockets that should not be taken into the jail.  He replied that he did not.  Upon booking him at the adult detention center a make-shift marijuana pipe was discovered.  For further information refer to officer's report.

On the above date, the defendant was stoped for failure to maintain his lane of traffic.  Officer noted an odor of alcohol.  Defendant displayed signs of impairment and was arrested.  He was transported and booked at the adult detention center.


Case#:  0209007281/ DWI (felony), Resisting obstructing or evading an officer/ Date:  08/14/09

Location:  I-25 East Frontage Road mm 5, Santa Fe, NM

Suspect:  Sofia Sanchez, age 40, Santa Fe, NM

Charged:  DWI (felony), Resisting, Obstructing, or evading an officer

On 8/14/09 RECC dispatched deputies to above location.  Vehicle was located on a dirt road by I-25 East Frontage Road at mm5.  Suspect was located passed out in the driver's seat.  Upon contact with driver, deputy detected an odor of an intoxicating beverage on her breath and person.  Suspect showed signs of impairment and also admitted to drinking.  Suspect refused to submit to SFST's and was placed under arrest.  Suspect attempted to runaway while handcuffs were being placed on her wrists.  Suspect was read NM Implied Consent and agreed to submit to a breath test in which the BrAC were .29, .30. Suspect was then transported and booked into the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.

Arrested: Carlos Hernandez 18yoa

On the above date, officer conducted a traffic stop on the defendant who was seen violating traffic laws.  Upon making contact with the defendant, officer noted signs of impairment.  Defendant failed field tests and was arrested.  A breath test was conducted, which varified the defendant was under the influence of alcohol.  He was transported and booked at the adult detention center.

Location:  402 Rodeo Rd., Santa Fe, NM (Sierra Vista Assisted Living Ctr.)

Victim: 90 year old female

On 8/13/09 RECC received a call in reference to a female resident at the above location who had just passed away.  The female resident had taken a turn for the worse since Monday.  She had a medical history.  Does not look like foul play was involved.  OMI arrived on scene and pronounced time of death at 1715 hours.
