The Sustainable Growth Management Plan (SGMP) set forth a transparent, manageable process for community and area-based participation.
A formal process to broaden citizen participation was established by the SGMP to include geographically defined Community Organizations (COs) and Registered Organizations (ROs). A CO is any organization recognized by the Board for a specific geographic area. A RO is an organization interested in specific development projects or other specific County activities.
The Community Planning process utilizes community knowledge and leadership as a mechanism to design land use plans specific to an unincorporated community area. After approval by the Board of County Commissioners (BCC), community plans constitute an amendment to the SGMP for the specified geographic area. The BCC has adopted Community, District and Corridor Plans and ordinances for communities throughout Santa Fe County. These plans and ordinances have been developed in accordance with the Sustainable Land Development Code (SLDC) in coordination with planning committees and community members to create plans that serve as a guide for future development, land use, community facilities, projects and programs for the specific community.
