Shortly after midnight the Santa Fe Regional Emergency Communications Center put out a BOLO (be on the lookout) for a black Chrysler 300 that was involved in a domestic violence call in Rio Arriba County. Santa Fe PD officers conducted a traffic stop on the same black Chrysler 300 prior to the BOLO. After providing his information to officers, the driver fled the traffic stop when he was asked to step out of the vehicle to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The SFRECC announced another BOLO for the vehicle after it fled from SFPD officers, and reported the vehicle was last seen on St. Francis near I25. Sgt. Webb located the vehicle on the I25 on ramp at mile marker 264, and observed the driver attempting to change a flat tire. Sgt. Webb placed the driver (Jorge Suarez Huerta) in custody, and observed heavy damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle, along with Suarez Huerta having bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and a strong odor of alcohol on him. A short time later it was discovered that Mr. Suarez Huerta struck a cyclist on the shoulder of I25 in the southbound lanes. The cyclist was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A headlight and passenger side mirror from the black Chrysler 300 were collected at the scene of the crash. Mr. Suarez Huerta refused to perform SFST's and refused to provide a breath or blood sample. A warrant was obtained for a blood draw and he was later booked at the SF ADC for the following charges. SFSO- Aggravated DUI. SFPD- Leaving the scene of a crash with great bodily harm, Failure to immediately notify of a crash, Aggravated Fleeing, and Reckless driving.
